What's New in idsMail Version 6.0
Feature Summary
idsMail v6.0 adds these exciting new customer-driven features:
- Lotus Notes API Interface - The new Lotus Notes API interface provides functionality similar to Active Messaging/CDO. Individual folders may be accessed, public discussion databases are accesible for reading and posting, the Address Book is enhanced, signed and encrypted messages are supported, and many more message properties can be read and set. This interface is specific to Lotus Notes and requires that the Notes software be at version 4.5 or higher.
- New Envelope Properties - You can now take control of the message routing and delivery process with new properties such as Importance, Sensitivity, DeliveryPriority, and DeliveryReport. The return receipt functionality (Certify property) has also been enhanced to be compatible with more internet mail systems and clients.
- Over a Dozen New/Enhanced Properties Methods can give your Email-enabled application an extra edge over the competition. Download the new Programming Guide for extensive information on these new capabilities.

In case you missed v5.0...
- True 32-bit Interface - IDSMail now ships with both 16-bit and 32-bit components. While 32-bit applications have always been able to use 16-bit IDSMail, the true 32-bit interface speeds access to Lotus Notes, Exchange, Outlook, etc.
- Active Messaging Support - Many customers wanted tighter integration with Outlook/Exchange, and we have delivered that with complete Active Messaging support. This includes capabilities such as folder access and management, enhanced address book capabilities, posting to public folders, etc. And, should you require application-specific features not implemented in IDSMail, easy and direct access to key parts of the Active Messaging object hierarchy is also provided.
- New Dialer Object - The Dialer object lets you control Dial-Up Networking (Remote Access Service) with ease. Unlike the free IDSDial component offered with previous versions of IDSMail, the Dialer object uses direct API calls and requires no other components or distributables.
- Encryption - Encryption of attachment files was a common feature request. IDSMail now delivers that capability via the new ZipPassword property.
- Bulletin Boards and Public Folders - The new Post method lets you submit messages to cc:Mail bulletin boards and public folders in Exchange and Outlook. Traditional methods such as LoadMessageHeaders have been extended to allow you to access and read these messages as well.
In case you missed v4.0...
- Address Book Support - IDSMail now contains native address book support for MAPI, VIM, MHS, and Banyan VINES.
- Faster Internet Mail Receive - The new LoadMessageIdentifiers method speeds Internet mail receive when you don't need to preview detailed header information.
In case you missed v3.0...
- Internet Mail Support - IDSMail now fully supports SMTP and POP3, the predominant E-mail standards of the Internet.
- MIME 1.0 Compliance - IDSMail complies with the MIME 1.0 specification on both send and receive. This guarantees reliability and consistency, especially regarding binary file attachments.
- Automatic Attachment Decoding - During internet mail receive, IDSMail automatically senses the message format and extracts file attachments, whether encoded in a MIME-compliant message or buried in a pre-MIME style message with UUENCODE. IDSMail performs the decoding automatically, you don't need to implement this at the application level.
- Built-in ZIP Compression - When sending files over internet mail, we almost always want to ZIP them first. IDSMail can do this for you automatically. It can also combine all the attachments into a single ZIP archive for even greater reliability.
- Background Mail Processing - Internet mail transfer can be a time-consuming process, especially on low-bandwidth dialup connections. Our new Asynchronous Notification capability can let that happen entirely in the background. Your application can keep on servicing the user and IDSMail will call you back when the Internet transfer is completed. NOTE: This capability requires the application to be developed in an environment that supports objects, such as Visual Basic 4.0 or Visual C++.
- Web Form Response Decoding - Web forms that use mail-to responses are great, but decoding them and processing them is a pain. IDSMail now has built-in support for this. Fields can be retrieved individually by name, or all at once in arrays or delimited strings.
- True Universal E-mail - IDSMail still works across all MS Windows operating system versions, and with any 16-bit or 32-bit development environment that supports OLE Automation. We didn't abandon our VB3, VC++ 1.5, Access 2.0, or Delphi 1.0 customers. Now everyone can add E-mail features to their applications that transparently support Internet mail (SMTP/POP3), MAPI, VIM, MHS, and Banyan VINES Intelligent Messaging.
